Shahrzad with a heavy heart agrees to the proposal, lies to Farhad, and then proceeds to marry the son in law of Bozorg Agha. Bozorg Agha agrees, under the stipulation that Shahrzad marries his son-in-law to bear children since his own daughter is barren. Shahrzad seeks his help in having Farhad released from prison. Shahrzad happens to be a nurse for Bozorg Agha, who is influential and has been funding the coup, as well as the group that arrested Farhad. During their time in prison, they are tortured before being sentenced to death for the crime of murdering a Guars of Honour. During the upheaval, Farhad and some of his other colleagues are arrested. Both are working towards their dreams, one being a doctor, and the other, a journalist. They are preparing for a fairytale wedding, despite the tense political landscape. The filming of the series was completed on 10 hectares of land over the west part of Tehran, specifically, the Ghazali Cinematic Town Complex. Directed by Hasan Fathi and written by Naghmeh Samini, Shahrzad is the story of a love broken apart by events of the 1953 coup that overthrew the elected prime minister. Like most shows in the country, Shahrzad is censor approved, but that doesn't mean that the storyline is bland. The actual filming completed in four months, and it became known as the largest project ever produced in the private sector. Due to the in-depth nature of the series and the heavy-hitting political storyline, the show was in pre-production for two years.
